HARD DISK DRIVE

HARD DISK DRIVE CONNECTION WITH MOTHERBOARD

-> Here we are going to see, how to connect the HDD with mother board.. There are two types of Ports available in Motherboard to connect the HDD. They are,
      1. IDE Port
      2. SATA Port
  •  IDE(Integrated Device Electronics) Port:
-> In old type of Hard disk we use IDE port only, this port has 40 pins in 2 rows.. We have two IDE ports in Mother board.
-> We can connect the HDD, CD-Drive, and DVD-Drive in IDE port.

-> To connect the HDD with IDE port, we need the PATA cable.
-> Here, we have a power cable with 4 holes to connect with HDD.
  • PATA(Parallel Advanced Technology Adaptor) Cable:
-> This cable also has the 40 holes to connect with IDE port.. This cable is also known as "IDE Cable".

-> Using a single PATA cable, we can connect the 2 devices with mother board.

  • SATA(Serial Advanced Technology Adaptor) Port:
-> It has the 7 pins.. And it looks like the letter 'L'.
-> Here, we need a SATA Cable to connect the SATA HDD with Motherboard.

  • SATA Cable:
-> In SATA Cable, we have a 7 pins on both side..
-> The 7 pins are used to transfer the data, so we need to connect them in HDD and Mother Board.

-> Here, we need the separate  power connector.. So, we need to connect it with our ordinary 4 pins SMPS power cable.
-> This SATA power cable has the 15 pins.
